Amboise is the quintessential Loire Valley day trip, perfectly blending Renaissance grandeur with intimate charm. Avignon is the perfect half-day destination, packing immense history into a compact, walled center. You can easily spend four hours exploring the massive Gothic Palais des Papes and walking on the famous broken Pont d'Avignon. It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience the UNESCO-listed surroundings, enjoy a café in the lively Place de l'Horloge, and see if you still know the words to the traditional “Sur le Pont d’Avignon” rhyme, all before lunch.

Burano is a vibrant, picturesque island in the Northern Venetian Lagoon, making it a perfect, charming half-day trip from Venice. Just 45 minutes by boat (Line 12), this small community offers a colorful, quiet contrast to the main city. Famous for its brightly painted fishermen's houses and intricate, traditional lace-making, it is a haven for photography and seafood lovers. Key sites include the leaning Bell Tower, the Lace Museum, and the iconic Tre Ponti bridge. We combined a tour of both Murano and Burano by taking the ACTV Line 12 vaporetto (water bus) from Fondamente Nove (northern Venice). Reasonable price, a great day trip.

Carcassonne, a renowned UNESCO-listed hilltop city in southern France, is an enchanting one-day visit. Celebrated for its massive, double-walled medieval citadel, La Cité, this fortress features 52 imposing towers and the 12th-century Château Comtal. While we enjoyed a day trip from Lucca, we immediately regretted not staying 3 or 4 days to fully explore its compact center. It houses unparalleled masterpieces, including Michelangelo’s David at the Accademia, the Uffizi Gallery, and the iconic Duomo. For art, history, and food lovers, a longer stay is crucial to truly experience the magic of this walkable, iconic city.
GHENT - Belgium
Ghent is a "fairy tale" Belgian destination, blending rich medieval history with scenic canal-side charm. Renowned as a former cloth-making power, its well-preserved center features the impressive 12th-century Gravensteen castle and the 14th-century Belfry, offering stunning panoramic views. Visitors can explore St. Bavo's Cathedral, home to Jan van Eyck's iconic Ghent Altarpiece, or admire the picturesque, historic guild houses along the Graslei and Korenlei quays.
HEVER CASTLE - England
Located in Kent near Edenbridge, just 30 miles southeast of London, Hever Castle is a perfect day trip for tourists seeking history and charm. Built in the 13th century, this picturesque, moated house was home to the Boleyn family from 1462 to 1539 and served as the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII’s famous second wife. It served as the setting for massive, nation-changing historical events. Today, visitors can tour the castle’s rich interiors or enjoy the gardens, which have appeared in films like The Princess Bride, Inkheart, and Star Wars

Perched 70 metres high on a dramatic cliff, Manarola is arguably the most charming and romantic village in Italy's Cinque Terre. As the second-smallest town, it boasts a tiny, picturesque harbor with a boat ramp and colorful houses cascading towards the sea. Easily accessed by frequent trains from La Spezia or Levanto, or via challenging, scenic hiking trails from neighboring villages, this enchanting, multicoloured gem offers an unforgettable coastal escape.

Margate, a vibrant town on England’s southeast coast, is a premier tourist destination renowned for its sandy Main Sands beach. Visitors can explore the modern Turner Contemporary art gallery, which offers rotating exhibitions by the Harbour Arm. Paris remains our favorite city, a global beacon of art, fashion, and gastronomy. The French capital captivates with its rich culture and timeless beauty, offering unparalleled experiences. Our top highlights included wandering the bohemian streets of Montmartre, viewing the Eiffel Tower, and admiring the newly rebuilt 12th-century Notre-Dame cathedral. We loved the masterpieces at Musée d'Orsay, the stained glass of Sainte-Chapelle, and the historic atmosphere of Cimetière du Père-Lachaise. Paris is an endlessly romantic, enchanting masterpiece.
PISA - Italy
Pisa, a captivating Tuscan city, is world-renowned for its iconic 56-meter Leaning Tower, a white-marble bell tower that was already tilting upon its 1372 completion. Situated in the stunning Piazza dei Miracoli, this architectural wonder sits beside the Romanesque, striped-marble cathedral. This UNESCO World Heritage site is rounded out by the Baptistry, famous for its incredible acoustics often demonstrated by singers, and the serene Camposanto Monumentale cemetery. It is a must-see destination for history, art, and unique architecture.

Porto, our favorite vibrant, hilly coastal city along the Douro River, seamlessly blends Old World charm with modern culture. Renowned for Port wine production, this UNESCO-listed gem boasts steep, colorful streets, the iconic two-tiered Dom Luís I Bridge, and stunning azulejo tiles at São Bento Station. Key sights include the lively Ribeira district, the scenic Clérigos Tower, and the historic Porto Cathedral (Sé). It is a premier destination offering dramatic riverfront views and a top-tier food scene, well worth a 4 day visit.
PRAGUE - Czech Republic
Nicknamed “the City of a Hundred Spires,” Prague is an incredibly beautiful, walkable destination perfect for exploration on foot. The heart of its historic core is Old Town Square, featuring stunning baroque buildings, Gothic churches, and the iconic medieval Astronomical Clock, which delights visitors with its hourly animated show. A highlight of any trip is crossing the pedestrian-only Charles Bridge. Completed in 1402, this picturesque 14th-century stone bridge is lined with 30 statues of saints and links the city's best sights.

Rome, a UNESCO World Heritage site founded in 753 BC, is an overwhelming blend of ancient, medieval, and Baroque treasures that a week cannot fully cover. As the historic heart of the Roman Empire and Catholic Church, the city offers unparalleled depth. Must-see attractions like the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Pantheon, and Vatican Museums require days, while Trastevere’s lively neighborhoods and Piazza Navona’s charm invite slow exploration. From ruins to Baroque fountains and authentic, bustling trattorias, Rome is an inexhaustible, vibrant city where you can never see it all.
SALZBURG - Austria
Salzburg quickly became one of our favorite destinations, perfectly blending stunning Baroque architecture with breathtaking Alpine views along the Salzach River. Its rich musical heritage is palpable throughout the city. We absolutely loved exploring the historic, narrow streets of the Old Town, visiting the breathtaking Mirabell Palace, and taking in panoramic views from the11th-century Hohensalzburg Fortress. It is truly a, must-visit, unforgettable gem.
SIENA - Italy
Siena is an absolutely enchanting UNESCO destination, offering a perfect, packed day trip filled with stunning Gothic architecture, the vibrant Piazza del Campo, and the awe-inspiring Duomo. While you can see the major highlights in one day, the city’s intimate medieval charm and incredible culinary scene deserve more time. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit but truly wished we had booked an overnight stay to explore the quieter, magical streets at night and added a second day to soak it all in at a leisurely pace.

We stayed four days which allowed us to explore the UNESCO-listed Silk Exchange and 13th-century Cathedral in the historic Old Town, experience the stunning modern architecture of the City of Arts and Sciences, and we strolled along the boardwalk on the nearby sun-drenched Mediterranean beaches. Don’t miss the vibrant Central Market, lively El Carmen neighborhood, and authentic paella, making it a perfect, well-balanced coastal city break year-round.

Three days in Venice were perfect to experience its magic, covering major landmarks like Piazza San Marco, the Rialto Bridge, and the Doge’s Palace. A vaporetto pass was essential for exploring, including visits to colorful Burano and Murano islands. Be sure to pre-book tickets for St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge’s Palace to avoid long lines. Beyond the iconic sights, the best experience is getting lost in the winding alleys and discovering the hidden gems of this stunning, unique city.
VERONA - Italy
Verona, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Italy’s Veneto region, is world-famous as the romantic setting for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. This enchanting city boasts stunning Roman, medieval, and Renaissance architecture. Key attractions include the 1st-century Verona Arena—a perfectly preserved, active opera house—and the iconic Casa di Giulietta, home to the famous balcony. Visitors can explore the vibrant Piazza delle Erbe, cross the historic Castelvecchio Bridge, and take in panoramic city views from Castel San Pietro.
